AI-Powered Food Ordering

DoorDash announced the launch of a text-to-order artificial intelligence agent designed to let users place delivery orders directly through Apple Messages. The tool supports conversational prompts, such as requesting a frequent order by referencing past habits.

Users can also ask for specific dishes or request local dining recommendations. The AI agent searches nearby restaurants, suggests a cart configuration, and can send images of recommended food options. For group orders, the system is designed to manage mixed dietary restrictions and varying quantities within a single transaction.

Market Competition and Availability

With this deployment, DoorDash aims to differentiate itself from competitors like Uber Eats and Grubhub amid a broader industry shift toward autonomous personal assistants that execute multi-step tasks without traditional app navigation.

A waitlist is currently open for users in the United States interested in testing the new functionality.

Alongside the software rollout, DoorDash noted plans to test delivery drone operations with select restaurant partners in Northern California.
