Domain Ownership Coincidence
OpenAI introduced an always-on artificial intelligence agent named Dots featuring a colorful avatar. Observers quickly noted potential ties to competing firm xAI founded by Elon Musk.
The domain dot.com is owned by xAI and currently redirects users to the download page for the Grok chatbot application. Records from the Whois domain registry indicate the domain name was transferred in July.
While it remains possible the acquisition was routine, xAI does not own similar typo domains such as bot.com or vot.com.
Online Speculation
Social media users speculated that the domain purchase could be an intentional move by xAI leadership after learning about OpenAI's upcoming product name.
An anonymous user on the X platform originally highlighted the domain redirection in a widely shared post, drawing widespread attention across the tech community.
Meanwhile, the more direct dots.com domain is currently held by a defunct corporate entity, leaving the exact motivations behind the dot.com redirection open to speculation.
