Instinct AI Agent Joins Group Chats

Instinct, an AI agent that recently secured a $10 billion valuation in its latest funding round, is now extending its capabilities to group chats. The company announced that users will be able to integrate the agent into conversations with friends, offering assistance for various scenarios such as travel planning, event ticket procurement, managing fantasy leagues, organizing carpools, or coordinating contributions for gatherings.

A notable aspect of this new feature is that the AI agent will function within group chats even if participating friends do not have an Instinct account, according to the company.

Competing in the AI Agent Market

This launch positions Instinct competitively against other major players in the AI agent sector, such as Meta's Muse. While Muse does not yet offer direct group chat integration, Meta's existing Meta AI application can be added to group chats across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook.

Instinct and Muse have been actively developing new features, both recently adding the ability for their agents to make phone calls as they vie for a larger share of the consumer AI market. Last week, OpenAI also introduced ChatGPT Dots, personal AI agents designed for use in ChatGPT Spaces, which are collaborative environments for humans and AI.

Privacy and Security Measures

Instinct founder Noah Shinn addressed privacy and security considerations for group chats on X. He explained that a user's personal Instinct agent will request permission before connecting with the group's Instinct agent. Users also have the option to select which groups they trust and can revoke that trust at any time.

Shinn further clarified that the group's Instinct operates independently from users' personal accounts and cannot access them. The personal agent will consistently seek user permission before sharing any information or performing actions.

Should new members join a group chat, any pending replies from a user's personal Instinct agent are held until permission is granted for them to be shared with the expanded group.

Streamlining Group Planning

Shinn highlighted the practical benefits, stating that "Making plans with friends usually turns into a frustrating back-and-forth over times and places. With Instinct in the group, you can explore options together, agree on a plan and get it done, all in one thread."

The new group chat feature is initially rolling out to Instinct's early access users and is expected to become available to all users in the near future. Users can request access to this and other recent additions by asking their Instinct agent to be placed on the trial list.
