Open-Source AI Hardware

Meta’s personal AI agent, Muse, which handles tasks such as booking travel, completing forms, and shopping, has expanded with an open-source project aimed at developers and hardware enthusiasts.

The company introduced Muse Gadgets, allowing developers to build custom hardware that connects directly to the Muse platform.

Meta is supplying open-source firmware alongside a Linux software development kit, in addition to sample project concepts such as adding color e-ink displays or creating USB-style devices for television ports.

Hardware Integration

Users can utilize affordable hobbyist computers like a Raspberry Pi or off-the-shelf ESP32 boards to integrate Muse with various displays, buttons, sensors, and actuators.

A dedicated Discord channel has been established to support community developers.

Muse Home Link

Meta's internal teams have already built proof-of-concept hardware, including a device called Muse Home Link. Powered by USB-C, this prototype allows Muse to connect to home networks and communicate with smart devices like speakers and televisions.

The company produced a limited run of 5,000 Home Link units to distribute to Muse subscribers. Shipping for these prototype devices is scheduled to begin within a few weeks.

Broader AI Strategy

The hardware initiative supports Meta's wider strategy to integrate Muse across multiple form factors beyond standard chatbots, complementing its ongoing push into small business and enterprise markets.

Recent enterprise efforts include a free tier for small businesses with usage limits that connects Muse to productivity tools like Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack, alongside a dedicated business unit named Meta Enterprise Platform.
