Introduction
Nvidia previously announced agreements with Microsoft and other manufacturers to develop AI- and agent-ready Windows PCs powered by its RTX Spark chip.
Microsoft revealed specifications and pricing for the new Surface Laptop Ultra, starting at $2,600 for the base model and scaling up to $3,700 for a more powerful chip. Configurations can reach $5,900 with expanded memory and storage.
The company also introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box workstation, priced starting at $6,000, which includes developer tools such as VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, WSL, and PowerShell 7.
Hardware and Capabilities
Both systems are engineered to run AI models locally and free of charge, utilizing dedicated CPUs, GPUs, unified memory, and enhanced cooling systems to manage intensive workloads.
The devices operate on a revised version of Windows 11 featuring Execution Containers to sandbox AI agents. Microsoft confirmed this capability will roll out to all Windows 11 users.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized that deploying standalone models requires orchestration, external memory, and a harnessed layer capable of integrating multiple models, context, and action spaces.
Nadella added that the Windows platform aims to support application agents from any developer.
Developer Focus
Targeting developers who frequently use MacBooks, Microsoft is offering up to $1,000 off for users trading in a MacBook Pro.
Beyond AI tasks, the high-performance graphics hardware is capable of supporting content creation, video processing, and gaming.
Other manufacturers are also entering the space; Dell detailed its XPS 16 Creator Edition PC, available for preorder at $3,800 with delivery scheduled for late October.
