Mobile Voice Agents
OpenAI has announced the rollout of voice-based agentic features for mobile devices, enabling users to initiate multi-step workflows such as drafting documents or summarizing email threads.
Plus and Pro subscribers gain access to a dedicated Work tab on mobile devices, supporting tasks like document creation, email drafting, and Slack message summaries. These users can also build sites, generate presentations, use a cloud browser, and access financial tools within ChatGPT. Free and Go tier users receive access to plugins and connected applications.
Cross-Device Continuity
The update introduces richer text output during voice conversations alongside seamless switching between text and voice modes. Users can initiate tasks while mobile and continue the conversation on desktop.
The release coincides with growing user adoption of voice commands for managing complex tasks via AI assistants.
Following the July launch of the GPT-Live conversational model and its subsequent desktop integration—which enabled voice-driven task completion in the Work tab and app creation in the Codex tab—this rollout extends comparable capabilities to smartphones.
Competitor Anthropic recently streamlined mobile-desktop handoffs and merged its Cowork and Chat interfaces, whereas OpenAI continues to maintain a separation between chat interfaces and dedicated workspaces.
