Funding Target Adjustment
OpenAI’s latest funding round has faced adjustments, according to multiple reports.
OpenAI was previously reported to be raising $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion valuation, and subsequently at a $1.25 trillion valuation, ahead of a planned initial public offering. Reports indicate the company lowered its funding target to $20 billion, with an expected initial close coming in even lower.
The round is set to be led by investors from the United Arab Emirates. A subsequent retail offering aimed at wealthy individuals could potentially bring the total raised amount closer to the $20 billion goal.
Investor Response
Additional reporting detailed that the company has secured $11 billion thus far, as fundraising efforts encountered a cautious response from certain large institutional investors.
These reported funding difficulties coincide with a period where Wall Street investors have grown more cautious regarding heavy artificial intelligence infrastructure spending, contributing to broader sell-offs in technology stocks.
