Introduction to OpenAI Office Suite

OpenAI is increasingly moving into workplace software with new features that closely resemble an office software suite, expanding beyond its traditional partnership model with Microsoft.

At its Dev Day developer conference in San Francisco, OpenAI announced several new ChatGPT features specifically designed for office workers and collaborative tasks.

Space and AI Agent Collaboration

Most notably, OpenAI launched a feature called Space, a shared workspace inside ChatGPT where coworkers can collaborate with the chatbot and with their own Dots, OpenAI’s newly launched AI agent personas designed to carry out tasks on a user’s behalf.

Pages and files live together in Space similarly to a traditional drive, but with active collaborative capabilities. Users can give a page specific instructions, such as checking a team channel and updating the page with relevant findings.

Pages and Slides Document Tools

OpenAI also announced Pages, a companion word processor built for human and agent collaboration, serving as an alternative to Google Docs and Microsoft Word. Users can write, research, generate charts, create images, and visualize information within the platform.

Additionally, the company introduced collaborative slides that can be created by talking directly with ChatGPT. Once generated, multiple workers and agents can edit them and leave comments.

Industry Shifts and Competition

As OpenAI edges into traditional software territory, firms like Microsoft and Salesforce are simultaneously developing their own generative AI products to keep pace with the shifting software landscape.
