Bringing DLSS to Radeon
The DLSS-NR project developed by Daniel Blanco was first released, bringing DLSS Neural Rendering to Radeon GPUs. The update makes all main DLSS features available, featuring DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Ray Regeneration, and the newest Neural Rendering model alongside performance improvements.
While AMD provides equivalents for most DLSS features like FSR upscaling, frame generation, ray regeneration, and anti-lag, these are not as universally supported by games compared to Nvidia offerings. Furthermore, Neural Rendering is an area where AMD lacks a direct built-in equivalent, prompting developers to create bridging modifications.
The updated mod incorporates DLSS Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and an improved Neural Rendering build. It also integrates FSR upscaling to give the mod a consistent version of FSR to work with, avoiding compatibility conflicts across different game implementations.
Compatibility and Performance
The mod currently supports three generations of Radeon GPUs including the RX 9000, 7000, and 6000 series across DirectX 12 titles that utilize FSR, DLSS, or XeSS. Users install the mod via the NeuralHub mod loader, which supplies an interface to inject settings into the game upscaler pipeline and tweak parameters through an in-game overlay.
The developer reports that output quality closely mirrors native Nvidia DLSS execution, barring minor visual effects that may not function fully. Testing on an RX 9070 XT achieved playable frame rates around 90 to 100 frames per second at 1080p, with ongoing development aimed at matching specific tier performance.
Real-world user feedback remains mixed, with some reporting no performance overhead compared to native FSR while others note performance reductions ranging from single digits up to 25 percent depending on the title. Because of varying PC hardware configurations and pipeline hooks, the mod is also incompatible with games employing strict anti-cheat software.
