RTX 5090 Status
Rumors recently circulated that production of the rare Nvidia RTX 5090 was stopping to free up manufacturing capacity for AI accelerators. However, Nvidia senior VP Jeff Fisher reportedly stated that the card has not been discontinued and will continue shipping.
Reports from Taiwanese outlets including 4Gamers and SJTV quote Fisher from a post-event interview explaining the situation. According to the executive, supplies are limited, but Nvidia is working to get the product to market.
Supply Chain Constraints
The supply chain capacity is somewhat constrained, but Nvidia is doing everything it can to get the product on the market. Although there are other variants of the RTX 5090 chip, production has not been discontinued, and Nvidia will continue to ship.
Fisher also reiterated that without GeForce, Nvidia and the modern AI market would not exist in their current forms.
Retail Availability
At Amazon, RTX 5090 cards have appeared from third-party sellers with high pricing, while Best Buy shows no stock and Newegg lists units with extended shipping times. The flagship card also remains absent from Nvidia's official storefront and Micro Center.
Industry Context
Industry observers note that gaming hardware represents a smaller share of Nvidia's overall revenue as enterprise AI hardware dominates production.
Other hardware manufacturers face similar scrutiny, with Intel and AMD maintaining commitments to consumer graphics despite heavy shifts toward enterprise AI accelerators.
Inquiries sent to Nvidia regarding the availability and production status of the GPU did not receive an immediate response.
