Performance Improvements
Nvidia has announced that its DLSS 5 technology featuring AI-powered neural rendering for gaming is now twice as fast as the previous iteration, achieving a tenfold performance increase since March. The updated model also features a reduced memory footprint and consumes up to 20% less VRAM.
The company achieved these gains through systematic pipeline optimizations and neural model refinements. This doubling in performance allows the lighting and graphical transformations applied by DLSS to operate at higher frame rates or support more intense visual settings.
The October update shrinks the overall DLSS 5 model footprint by nearly a quarter down to 118 million parameters while cutting 4K VRAM consumption by 20%. Nvidia reports that GPU overhead compared to the September model has been halved at comparable visual fidelity, with overall frame rate boosts reaching up to 1.4x.
Game Integration and Hardware Support
The faster model is scheduled to debut in NBA 2K27 on October 16.
DLSS 5 support will expand to Hogwarts Legacy the following month. The technology remains supported across RTX 50-series GPUs, GeForce NOW, and the RTX Spark lineup.
Additionally, a new Performance Mode for Frame Generation is rolling out to RTX 50-series, RTX 40-series GPUs, and RTX Spark laptops. A new Preset C mode replaces the previous optical flow AI model with a faster and lighter algorithm for UI and ray-traced effects, delivering a 35% speed increase on the RTX 5060.
