Streamlining Choices
An over-abundance of choices can bring about confusion and lead to decision paralysis. Plenty of tech companies have stratified their product offerings so finely that making sense of them can feel complicated. Amazon previously offered five different Fire TV streamers, but the company is now addressing that portfolio complexity.
Alongside a new 4K streaming stick and remote control, Amazon announced a simplified Fire TV device lineup. The list of streaming players it offers has been cut to four, down from the previous five.
Previous Lineup
Prior to the change, Amazon offered the following devices under its streaming media player banner:
• Fire TV Stick HD
• Fire TV Stick 4K Select
• Fire TV Stick 4K Plus
• Fire TV Stick 4K Max
• Fire TV Cube
Updated Lineup
The updated list consists of:
• Fire TV Stick HD
• Fire TV Stick 4K
• Fire TV Stick 4K Max
• Fire TV Cube
Pricing and Availability
While it is a modest 20 percent reduction, the catalog should be easier to navigate, consisting of three streaming sticks and a cube. The Fire TV Stick HD launched with a slimmer design and retails for $35. The Fire TV Stick 4K is priced at $60, while the Fire TV Cube launched at $140.
With sales events approaching, many of these devices are positioned to receive discounts. The newly announced 4K stick is slated for promotional pricing, offering savings for consumers looking for various hardware options.
