Model Changes

Free Gemini users will only be able to use Gemini Flash-Lite.

Model Changes

Google has updated its support pages to outline changes coming to Gemini apps and the website. Starting on October 9, free accounts will lose access to the Gemini Flash and Pro models. Free inquiries will instead run on Flash-Lite, Google's cost-effective model, while Flash sits a step above and Pro handles advanced reasoning.

Subscription Tiers

Subscribers to Google AI Plus, priced at $5 a month in the US, will lose access to the Gemini 3.1 Pro model. The company notes that Pro handles complex math, coding, and multi-modal documents. Users requiring these features may need to upgrade to the AI Pro plan at $20 a month or the AI Ultra plan starting at $100 a month.

New Effort Levels

Google is also introducing adjustable effort levels for models, letting users select low, medium, or high settings. Higher settings provide more thorough answers at the cost of usage limits. AI Ultra subscribers gain access to a Deep Think option for maximum processing capabilities.

New Effort Levels

AI Ultra subscribers will receive access to Gemini 4 Argon upon its general rollout. The model is currently restricted to members of Google's Fairwind Program for governments and trusted partners.
