Police may have new ways to access data on locked iPhones

A training video reportedly demonstrates how law enforcement personnel can bypass a key Apple security feature designed to protect device data.

Inactivity Reboot Workarounds

Apple implemented an inactivity reboot feature that automatically restarts iPhones if left locked for over 72 hours, effectively blocking unauthorized access. However, recent reports indicate that tools developed by Magnet Forensics can circumvent this protective measure.

Demonstration footage shows Magnet Forensics implementing a workaround for the inactivity reboot via a new GrayKey Preserve tool and an Evidence Preservation Mode.

After First Unlock State

Reports suggest the tools maintain the iPhone's After First Unlock state, preventing the device from returning to a heavily encrypted pre-boot status even if power is lost or the system restarts.

The software is also claimed to prevent automatic deletion routines for cached locations and recently removed messages, raising fresh questions regarding digital privacy.
