NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang may have been the target of a Chinese government spy

President Trump reportedly chose to do nothing in response.

US officials see the NVIDIA CEO as the target of a Chinese government spy. The report states that President Trump was briefed on the matter a year ago and decided not to take action.

US intelligence agencies reportedly surveilled Alice Huang, a Chinese citizen and executive at Singapore data center firm Megaspeed. That surveillance uncovered contact with American citizen Jensen Huang.

America's spy agencies concluded that Alice Huang is a Chinese intelligence asset passing information to Beijing. Before the espionage allegations surfaced, she was already suspected of helping steer advanced NVIDIA chips into China. Megaspeed's Malaysian sister company bought at least $4.8 billion in NVIDIA-based equipment in under two years.

A thin public profile and a baffling White House response

Alice Huang's public profile remains limited. She described herself as Megaspeed's CEO, though the company initially listed her as its managing director before removing her from that role in corporate paperwork.

An image posted to LinkedIn in 2024, prior to Megaspeed's major chip purchases, shows Alice Huang sitting near Jensen Huang during a gathering with other executives.

The CEO of the world's most valuable chip company being targeted by a foreign intelligence operation is a significant development. However, reports indicate that Jensen Huang never received a standard defensive briefing typically given to individuals targeted by foreign spies.

Reports suggest officials were wary of disrupting NVIDIA's chip sales or complicating trade with China, while others questioned whether a briefing might tip off Alice Huang, who remained under surveillance.

Further details continue to emerge regarding the ongoing security assessments.
