Overview
Shelly announced a new smart home accessory designed to track multiple people as they move through rooms or large spaces without recording video. The Shelly Presence Gen4 sensor uses mmWave radar technology instead of a camera to detect presence, motions, and activities of people and pets. It is available for $84.99 through Shelly’s online store and is expected to reach other major retailers.
Shelly’s new presence sensor simultaneously detects up to 10 people without a camera
The Presence Gen4 sensor uses mmWave radar to detect and trigger smart home automations as people move through a home.
Installation and Compatibility
The Presence Gen4 can sit on a shelf using its built-in stand or mount to a wall to utilize its 140-degree horizontal field of view, monitoring spaces up to 650 square feet. Installation requires a power source for the USB-C cable. The device integrates into platforms including Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant, supporting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Matter.

Mounting the Presence Gen4 to a wall allows the sensor to detect a larger space, but installation will need to accommodate a USB-C power cable.
Zones and Customization
Automations for turning on lights, heating, cooling, or music can trigger when a person enters a space and turn off when they leave. Users can configure up to 10 independently customizable detection zones so lights activate only when someone sits at a desk or home theater equipment powers up when someone sits on a couch. The sensor also allows users to include pets or adjust sensitivity to ignore low-to-the-ground objects like robot vacuums.
