Software Update Cancelled

When the midrange Sony Xperia 10 VI was announced with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset and Android 14, Sony promised three major OS updates including Android 17. However, a notice on the company's UK support site reveals the device will not receive the upgrade.

Storage Limitations Cited

Although three OS updates were originally promised upon launch, Sony stated that the upgrade has been scrapped because of a storage issue.

In an official notice, Sony explained that a detailed technical assessment showed limitations connected to the phone's storage configuration prevent an adequate Android 17 upgrade experience. Consequently, the company decided against releasing the upgrade and apologized for not meeting its original announcement.

Security Support Continues

Sony noted that while major operating system updates are concluding for the Xperia 10 VI, four years of security patches will continue through June 2028. The manufacturer also emphasized that this issue pertains strictly to the Xperia 10 VI hardware specifications and does not affect update schedules for other devices in the Xperia lineup.
