ThermoWorks Introduces Shorter RFX Meat Mini

The RFX Meat Mini offers nearly identical performance to the full-sized grilling probe.

ThermoWorks' RFX Meat probe is an established grilling tool. Once connected to a Wi-Fi-enabled RFX Gateway, users can monitor food temperatures remotely via smartphone. The RFX line maintains a reputation for high accuracy.

Design and Specifications

While effective, the standard 4.7-inch probe can be too long for smaller cuts like filet mignon or individual salmon portions. The new RFX Meat Mini addresses this with a shorter build while retaining four internal temperature sensors, an IP69K waterproof dishwasher-safe rating, and compatibility with temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It includes a AAA-battery-powered charging block rated for over 175 charges, featuring a maximum immersion line of 2.6 inches and a minimum line of 2.36 inches.

Battery Life and Performance

The main difference between the full-size model and the Mini is longevity. The Mini lasts up to 48 hours on a charge compared to the original's 65 hours, which remains more than adequate for typical home barbecue sessions.

Connectivity

The Mini operates on a 433MHz radio frequency rather than Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect to the RFX Gateway and app. This frequency helps resist interference from thick grill or smoker walls. The Gateway also supports a separate wired ambient temperature probe to prevent inaccuracies from evaporative cooling.

Pricing and Availability

The RFX Meat Mini is available for $99. A Gateway is required to operate the probe due to the Sub-1GHz radio frequency it utilizes.
