Stone Kite Launch
Jason Jones, one of the co-founders of Bungie and a co-creator of Halo and Destiny, has announced his new studio, Stone Kite, which will work on projects across various entertainment mediums. The studio's first release is One Zero One, a limited-series comic book based on a manuscript written by Jones.
The Los Angeles-based studio is a partnership with Margaret Stohl, a Bungie veteran who has written 14 books as well as numerous games and Marvel Comics in her career. She serves as Stone Kite's CEO. Stone Kite aims to break down traditional media silos by bringing creators from different disciplines into the room from day one to shape shared worlds.
Jones has spent his career making games but expressed a lifelong passion for writing. His manuscript served as the foundation for the studio's inaugural project, developed in collaboration with Stohl.
First Project: One Zero One
One Zero One is a four-part limited comic series about an impending face-off between humans and a rogue army of AI-driven robots. Part 1 is available now in digital form on the Stone Kite website, alongside preorders for a physical edition.
Industry Background
Jones co-founded Bungie in 1991 and remained with the company until recently departing following studio restructuring. Regarded as a visionary game designer, Jones has historically maintained a low public profile and rarely gives interviews.
Bungie previously announced changes to its ongoing operations and support schedules earlier in the year.
