The 1998 Google Easter Egg

Nintendo is preparing to release a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, prompting Google to introduce a special Easter egg that reverts the search engine to the aesthetic of 1998.

Users visiting Google and searching for terms related to Zelda or the Master Sword will notice the iconic weapon appear in the bottom right corner of the browser interface.

Exploring the Retro Interface

Clicking the sword triggers an animation where it plunges into a pedestal, loading a reconstructed search page styled like the late 1990s. The layout features classic blue hyperlinks, the original typography with an exclamation point, and a simpler interface free of modern clutter.

The vintage layout omits current features like advertisements and AI-generated overviews, offering a streamlined experience reminiscent of the early web era.

The retro view is temporary and reverts to the standard modern search interface as soon as a new query is entered.
