Florida Research
Rockstar Games has shared details about the extensive field research conducted to capture the authentic atmosphere of Florida for Grand Theft Auto 6.
Senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries explained that studio developers visited local nightlife venues and explored neighborhoods at night alongside former police officers during research trips across Miami and South Florida.
The development team aimed to experience local culture directly, visiting beaches, the Everglades, the Keys, and various entertainment establishments.
Modern Setting
While previous titles featured fictionalized versions of Miami, Grand Theft Auto 6 takes place in the contemporary era, reflecting two decades of regional evolution since the release of Vice City Stories.
Map and Activities
The in-game state of Leonida features multiple distinct regions including Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park, supporting activities like air boating, kayaking, and racing.
Content and Leaks
Nightlife and entertainment venues continue to be a prominent element of the series, following references seen in earlier leaked footage and previous franchise entries.
The inclusion of detailed venue exploration aligns with the franchise's historical focus on expansive urban simulation and world-building.
Release Details
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch in November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
