Next-Gen Updates Announced

Metro 2039 is scheduled to launch on February 4, 2027. Ahead of that release, developer 4A Games is launching next-gen updates for the first two games in the franchise.

Both Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light previously received a remaster in 2014, but they require adjustments to run smoothly on modern hardware. The upcoming updates aim to introduce long-needed bug fixes.

Performance and Visual Upgrades

On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the Metro titles will run at either native 4K at 60 fps or upscaled 4K at 120 fps, utilizing PSSR on the PS5 Pro and traditional temporal upscaling on Xbox. On PC, the games will add DLSS support alongside quality-of-life improvements.

4A Games plans to release full patch notes ahead of the PC release on October 22 and the console release on October 29.

The updates will not add ray tracing to Metro 2033 or Last Light, making them significantly easier to run at high settings compared to their original launch specifications.

Meanwhile, Metro 2039 is set to launch amid an ongoing RAM crisis that may impact hardware benchmarking for the post-apocalyptic shooter.
