Launch Success
Phantom Blade Zero is officially the next big thing. Developer S-Game has announced that its wuxia-themed action game has surpassed a significant milestone in just a few days.
Within 72 hours of going on sale, Phantom Blade Zero has sold 4 million copies. The official X / Twitter account posted the news with a message: “Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support!”
Dominating the Charts
Even on its first day, it was clear this was going to be a beast. Phantom Blade Zero was ahead of Steam’s biggest games, from PUBG to Dota 2, topping the Steam charts as soon as it launched. It was also the best-selling game on Steam by revenue, ahead of Modern Warfare 4, Aion 2, and Probably Stolen, a Cyberpunk shopkeeper sim that's going viral. Steam concurrents peaked on Sunday with a whopping 833,921 players.
Pre-Launch Momentum
The early success shouldn't come as a huge surprise. Last week, it was estimated that Phantom Blade Zero had sold over 1 million copies before launch across launch platforms Steam and PS5, and Tencent’s WeGame (an online PC storefront in China). Nearly two thirds of total prelaunch sales were from China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong.
An early review for Phantom Blade Zero returned a 9/10, praising it as an "unbelievably smooth action game filled with memorable boss fights, compelling combat, and limitless swagger."
While a monster hit, Phantom Blade Zero's initial sales are not quite on par with Black Myth: Wukong, which achieved 10 million sales in its first three days.
Key Talent Involved
Notable voice actors contribute to the game, with Roger Craig Smith playing the lead character. He is joined by Maggie Robertson, and martial arts legend Donnie Yen served as a key creative consultant, starring as the character Mó Yuan through full facial, voice, and motion capture.
