The team behind Wardogs expects to bring the game to next-gen consoles in the future.

Although the current console generation continues to evolve, platform holders are already looking toward the future with Sony's PlayStation 6 and Microsoft's Xbox Project Helix, despite neither company confirming official release windows. Developer Bulkhead is already planning ahead for its upcoming shooter, Wardogs.

Next-Gen Console Plans

Wardogs is currently slated to release on consoles in 2028, raising questions about potential next-gen support. According to Bulkhead, supporting future hardware is a given.

Bulkhead co-founder Howard Philpott stated that designing the game to be performant naturally paves the way for next-gen console releases as a direct port.

Senior producer Kane Allard noted that the studio is already in discussions with platform holders regarding console versions of Wardogs and does not foresee major hurdles in bringing the game to upcoming machines.

Allard explained that meeting the performance criteria for base PlayStation and Xbox hardware means adapting for next-gen systems should primarily involve scaling performance rather than redesigning core mechanics.

Industry Context

Recent industry discussions have highlighted debates over console lifecycles amidst rising development costs and hardware pricing adjustments.

While analysts previously projected a 2028 launch window for a potential PlayStation 6, Sony has not yet provided an official schedule.

Microsoft has similarly indicated that its next-generation Xbox hardware strategy will involve a diverse family of devices tailored for different gaming scenarios.

Current Release Status

In the meantime, players can experience Wardogs through its ongoing PC early access phase, with major gameplay updates scheduled for the upcoming season.
