Channel Termination Over Gameplay

A YouTuber and streamer's channel was permanently banned for a Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival gameplay video.

French content creator J0nathan said that despite covering up the nudity in the game’s opening scenes with black boxes, his channel was removed for violating YouTube’s sex and nudity policy. Explicit content that is meant to be sexually gratifying is not allowed on the platform, according to communication received by the streamer during the appeal process.

Hellraiser: Revival, developed by Space Marine 2 studio Saber Interactive, opens with an explicit sequence featuring a topless character and BDSM elements. While graphic, the scene serves as a narrative catalyst for the story that follows.

J0nathan claimed that this opening sequence triggered the ban, despite uncensored footage of the exact same scene remaining live on other channels. Although he marked the video as not made for kids, he did not apply an explicit age gate, believing that censoring the explicit visuals would suffice.

Since the rest of the game resembles a standard horror title comparable to Resident Evil, the creator assumed an initial age restriction was unnecessary, expecting YouTube to apply one automatically if required.

Impact on Creator

At the time of the enforcement action, J0nathan held 190,000 subscribers on the affected channel, which was permanently deleted.

The removal wiped out a decade of work and eliminated the creator's primary income source without any prior warnings or strikes on the account.

Appeals submitted through automated platform channels were rejected rapidly with standardized responses, leaving creators questioning whether human reviewers assess these edge cases.

Concerns remain regarding uneven enforcement, given that identical footage continues to circulate on the platform without incurring penalties.

Operating secondary channels poses a risk of further bans under platform rules, compounding the emotional and financial toll of losing thousands of archived videos.

Developer Guidance

Attempts to enlist assistance from contacts and developers yielded no direct intervention.

Prior to launch, Saber Interactive advised content creators to apply appropriate age ratings, sexual theme labels, and platform tools to prevent demonetization or account removal.

The studio noted that the game lacks a dedicated streamer mode, meaning context and intent remain critical for compliance with individual platform community guidelines.

Saber Interactive was approached for further comment regarding creator support policies.
