Voice AI Convergence
Consumer voice AI applications are increasingly overlapping in functionality, demonstrated as Granola introduces a system-wide dictation tool following competitor Wispr's earlier expansion into meeting transcription.
The new dictation functionality operates natively on macOS. Users trigger the tool using the Fn key, after which spoken input is automatically formatted and inserted into active text fields across any application for messaging, email, or note creation.
According to the company, support for Windows and iOS platforms is scheduled for release in the near future.
Market Landscape
Granola and Wispr hold valuations of $1.5 billion and $2 billion, respectively. While Granola centers its development on meeting automation, Wispr operates an in-house research laboratory focused on alternative human-computer interfaces.
This feature consolidation extends across the wider voice technology sector, with firms such as Fireflies, Speechify, and Monologue evolving from single-purpose tools into comprehensive platforms combining transcription and dictation capabilities.
