Infrastructure and Capital

The scale of investment required to compete, sustain growth, expand infrastructure, and pursue new strategic initiatives amidst the AI transformation taking place in the industry is significant, Meta notes. Susan Li, Meta's chief financial officer, added during an earnings call that the new class of shares will expand funding tools and provide flexibility to invest behind momentum driven by artificial intelligence.

Meta has invested heavily in the artificial intelligence sector by building data centers, recruiting industry talent, and developing models capable of competing with rival tech giants. The company projects capital expenditures between $135 billion and $145 billion for the year.

Recent AI Releases

Meta recently launched its artificial intelligence agent, Muse, designed to manage tasks such as cleaning email inboxes, booking restaurant reservations, and planning trips. The application gained significant traction in app stores and reached 10 million downloads in the United States. The company also rolled out its Muse Wonder model.

Privacy and Security Challenges

The rollout of Muse encountered issues involving user privacy after reports indicated the agent shared sensitive information during interactions. Additionally, the company temporarily paused a conversation-sharing feature following the discovery of publicly accessible chat logs on the web.
