Meta pauses Muse sharing after researchers find AI chats on the web

Security researchers discovered exposed Muse chat logs containing sensitive materials, including a marketing firm's revenue data, corporate calendars, and loan applications.

Security Analysis

A company spokesperson stated that the feature permitted users to generate accessible web pages for specific conversational artifacts. The functionality has been paused to review the report and evaluate potential modifications to link discovery methods.

The vulnerability stemmed from how sharing URLs were constructed, combining conversational titles with random identifiers. Because the hostnames often revealed contextual details, analyzing public domain name system records allowed outsiders to reconstruct functional web links.

By examining public DNS traffic directories, investigators accessed numerous private interactions, highlighting recurring industry challenges with accidental data exposure in conversational artificial intelligence platforms.
