Hybrid Intelligence Integration

At a Windows and Surface event, Microsoft showcased an upgrade to its Copilot AI system that grants access to local files on user PCs and enables direct actions across the operating system. The feature is part of a broader initiative called Hybrid Intelligence, where applications utilize a combination of local and cloud-based AI models to complete tasks efficiently.

Microsoft Expands Copilot Control

With capabilities driven by Hybrid Intelligence, Copilot can interact directly with files stored on a Windows PC to execute user requests.

Automated Task Execution

During a demonstration, Microsoft's executive vice president of Copilot illustrated how the AI agent can assist with complex workflows. Instructed to handle documents requested by an accountant via email, the system searched designated folders, renamed files, compressed them into a zip folder, and drafted an outgoing email with the archive attached.

Features utilizing Hybrid Intelligence are scheduled to roll out to Copilot users over the following couple of months.

Updated Windows Search

Microsoft also introduced an enhanced Windows search experience designed to support direct actions from the search interface, such as toggling dark mode, adjusting microphone volume, or sending text messages. This functionality is slated for release on Windows 11 PCs.
