Copilot Phased Out on Smart TVs

Nearly two years after LG and Samsung announced at CES 2025 that their latest smart TVs would include access to Microsoft’s Copilot, the company is ending support for the AI assistant’s functionality on all TVs this year, according to industry reports.

Microsoft is ending Copilot support on smart TVs

A notification on LG TVs reveals that Copilot functionality is soon going away on all TVs.

The news emerged from an on-screen notification that appeared on webOS-powered LG hardware. The notification explains that Microsoft decided to end support for Copilot functionality across all televisions. The feature is scheduled for discontinuation during 2026, though exact timelines remain subject to Microsoft’s schedule.

Previously, LG faced criticism after an update to its webOS software added an unremovable Microsoft Copilot shortcut that opened the AI assistant’s web application in a browser. LG eventually allowed users to delete the shortcut following online pushback regarding its unrequested installation.

Strategic Shift Toward Enterprise

Microsoft Copilot functioned primarily as an AI companion on Samsung and LG smart TVs, allowing users to chat, query onscreen content, or request entertainment recommendations. However, Microsoft subsequently introduced a consolidated Copilot application focused heavily on business and productivity features rather than consumer-facing digital companionship.
