Streamlining the Desktop App
The ChatGPT desktop app can present navigational challenges due to separate ChatGPT and Codex sections, alongside distinct Chat and Work tabs.
OpenAI is planning to merge the Chat and Work tabs within the ChatGPT platform, according to user communications. Initial availability will target select users to gather feedback before a broader rollout.
The update is designed to let users transition from initial ideation to execution within a single interface, integrating files and plugins for tasks such as building websites or generating presentations. The Codex section will continue to operate as a separate experience.
Following the transition, both ChatGPT and Codex will draw tokens from a shared allowance pool. OpenAI noted that while most users will remain unaffected, some individuals may experience token resets more frequently depending on usage patterns and model selection.
Competitor Anthropic introduced a similar change by consolidating Claude's chat and Cowork functions into a single interface.
