A New AI-Generated Open World
Developers AICodeWith have published a browser-based game dubbed Taipei GTA. The game’s name could put the developers in hot water with Rockstar’s legal department, but at the time of writing, it's online, free, and very playable. This game, which reportedly cost $10,000 in AI tokens to create, offers a diversion for players awaiting GTA 6.
Taiwanese media reports indicate that Taipei GTA has attracted 1.2 million concurrent users within just three days of its release.
While official announcements are scarce, an English-language wiki provides information about the game, supplementing reports from Taiwanese and Hong Kong media.
AI Development and Costs
Taipei GTA was developed using the AICodeWith platform, which offers access to various AI models like DeepSeek, Qwen, Kimi, and GLM, operating on a prepaid token system. As AICodeWith appears to be both the platform and the game's developer, Taipei GTA likely serves as a showcase for its capabilities, especially given the reported USD$10,000 cost in coding tokens.
Exploring Virtual Taipei
Hosted on the Vercel cloud platform, the web app features zones modeled after famous Taipei areas like Ximending and Taipei Main Station. The game captures many aspects of the city's life, including busy streets, neon signs, motor scooters, convenience stores, and night markets.
Inspired by classic GTA titles, Taipei GTA offers a free-roaming experience with elements of crime. Players begin with minimal resources and can explore the city freely or engage in one of the 93 available missions.
Ongoing Development
Taipei GTA is actively under development, with reports indicating that the developers are seeking community feedback for future updates and expansions.

The browser game demonstrates swift and responsive performance, even on integrated graphics, with frame rates exceeding 100FPS on a Radeon 890M. Its low-poly models and simple lighting evoke an early-2000s retro gaming aesthetic, offering a distinct environment compared to titles like San Andreas.
