Emulating PlayStation 5 on PC

Insomniac Games' Marvel's Wolverine has no official PC version in development. However, an experimental PS5 emulator has shown the capability to run early portions of Marvel's Wolverine on PC, though currently restricted to single-digit frame rates.

While previous builds of the KytyPS5 emulator could only load the game's menus as a proof of concept, recent progress has enabled the software to render cinematics and active gameplay scenes.

The latest build of KytyPS5 can execute the title, but performance is limited to a single-digit frame rate. This leaves the action-packed game far from fully playable on PC hardware, though it marks a technical step forward.

Emulator Development Challenges

The low frame rates highlight the current state of the emulator rather than the title itself. KytyPS5 remains in early development, with developers prioritizing broad game compatibility over the flawless execution of individual software.

Despite limitations, the rapid progress for Marvel's Wolverine highlights potential advances in PS5 emulation. KytyPS5 utilizes Vulkan 1.3 for graphics output and incorporates a proprietary system to decode PS5 RDNA 2 GPU instructions, with builds available for Windows, Linux, and experimental macOS versions.

Broader Emulation Milestones

Concurrently, alternative projects like SharpEmu have achieved playable 60 FPS performance in a limited set of titles, successfully running six out of 55 tested games at full speed alongside six additional titles reaching playable gameplay at reduced frame rates.
