Steam Survey Hardware Shifts
The latest Steam Survey appears to show that systems packing 32GB or more RAM and 1TB or more storage are seeing a decline. The data indicates a proportional rise in gamers using 8GB and 16GB RAM PCs at the expense of 32GB configurations, alongside a noticeable shift in storage capacities over the past month.
Desktop and laptop PCs sold as pre-builts are frequently fitted with 16GB of RAM as standard, alongside smaller storage devices. The Steam Survey suggests that the share of 32GB systems dropped by 5.16%, despite previously being the most popular configuration among gamers.
RAM and Storage Market Pressures
RAM remains heavily impacted by industry demand. Current market pricing requires builders to spend significantly higher amounts for DDR5 memory kits, and prices continue to fluctuate regularly.
Data for fixed storage space shows that users with 1TB of total storage or above shrunk by 4.68%. Categories representing smaller capacities, such as 750GB to 999GB and 250GB to 499GB, saw growth, indicating that Steam gaming rigs are increasingly reliant on smaller capacity solid-state drives.
GPU Market Representation
In the GPU segment, the RTX 5080 maintains a presence in the survey rankings, while the RTX 5070 and RTX 3060 emerge as joint popular graphics processors among respondents.
Analysis of the survey demographics indicates that fluctuations are not driven by regional internet café influxes, as Simplified Chinese language users surveyed decreased during this period, pointing to a reflection of typical system configurations in Western markets.
