Affordable Excellence
The price of 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller is exceptional. At just $30, the Ultimate 2C includes critical features expected from a contemporary gamepad, such as haptic feedback and Hall effect thumbsticks. It intentionally omits frivolous additions like RGB lighting and rear-grip buttons, yet still offers functions that more expensive Switch 2 controllers lack. Compact, comfortable, and perfectly precise, the Ultimate 2C is a fundamental gamepad that delivers significant value.
Key Features and Controls
8BitDo has a proven track record for building quality controllers, and the Ultimate 2C exemplifies this expertise by focusing on essential features. The Ultimate 2C includes six-axis motion control, vibration, tactile bumpers, a responsive D-pad, and Hall effect triggers. It also features an extra, mappable button on each shoulder, positioned between the main bumper and trigger. These additional bumpers are a signature 8BitDo design element, useful for quick actions without interfering with traditional controls. The high-sensitivity Hall effect thumbsticks offer a smooth glide, easy click, and come with a lifetime no-drift guarantee.

Build Quality and Ergonomics
The Ultimate 2C features an eggshell-style plastic body with added texture along the grips. It feels light but not cheap, maintaining a good balance in hand, similar in size and shape to Nintendo's Switch 2 Pro Controller. The face buttons are shiny, pill-like domes with printed letters. While the small central inputs (minus, plus, square, and star) can be hard to read at a glance, this is a minor issue that can be overcome with muscle memory. The square and star buttons are flat, while the minus and plus buttons are slightly rounded, allowing for tactile differentiation.
The Ultimate 2C cannot wake up the Switch 2, though 8BitDo states it can wake the original Switch. Given that the pricier Ultimate 2 gained this ability via a firmware update, there is potential for this feature to be added in the future.
Battery Life and Unbeatable Price
The Ultimate 2C offers a reliable 15-hour battery life and is easily charged via a standard USB-C port, with a two-hour charging time. It is available in three colorways directly from 8BitDo—baby blue, pink, and dark blue with a tan back—along with a transparent black model exclusive to Best Buy. At just $30 apiece, this is an astonishing deal, especially when Nintendo charges $90 for the Switch 2 Pro Controller and comparable third-party gamepads typically cost around $60.

Feature Trade-offs
Naturally, at a third of the price of Nintendo's Switch 2 Pro Controller and half the cost of 8BitDo's Ultimate 2, the Ultimate 2C does not include every possible feature. The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller, for example, includes RGB lighting, rear-grip buttons, TMR thumbsticks, Hall effect triggers with mode switching, a charging stand, a 2.4G dongle, Windows compatibility, console-wake ability, and extensive customization through 8BitDo's Ultimate Software V2, costing $70. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, which is even more expensive, adds an NFC touchpoint, an audio jack, and proprietary soft-hit joysticks.
Despite these differences, the Ultimate 2C provides all the necessary elements for a great gamepad. It feels natural in your hands once gameplay begins, a hallmark of excellent design. Its affordability makes it suitable for casual use or for children, while its responsiveness, ergonomic design, and satisfying performance make it ideal for dedicated players of any age and genre.
The Ultimate 2C stands in a league of its own regarding cost. You can purchase two Ultimate 2Cs for the price of one Ultimate 2 controller, with money left over for a co-op game. Alternatively, three Ultimate 2Cs cost less than a single Switch 2 Pro. This fully capable, comfortable, and appealing gamepad promises precise performance for years, backed by a company with a strong reputation in gaming accessories. The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C is a spectacular Switch 2 controller that offers incredible value at just $30.
