Apple Music celebrates the iPod's 25th anniversary with a virtual Easter egg

Time to dust off the click wheel.

Interactive Virtual Player

Marking 25 years since the unveiling of the original iPod, Apple has introduced a nostalgic Easter egg for music fans. The device that popularized carrying thousands of songs in your pocket is now immortalized through a digital tribute.

Users visiting a broken or missing page on the Apple Music website are greeted by a fully interactive virtual version of the classic music player. Below the standard notification, an invitation to give it a spin allows visitors to navigate a library of over a thousand playable tracks.

The click wheel and general controls are fully functional, offering a particularly responsive experience on mobile touch screens and tablets compared to desktop browsers.

Classic Interface and Track Limits

The interface replicates the original design with dedicated sections for playlists, artists, songs, and settings. The curated playlist features early 2000s hits from artists such as blink-182 and Eminem, alongside regional selections depending on location. Playback for each track is limited to 90 seconds.

The virtual device also includes the classic Brick game, accessible by holding the center button on the About screen, mirroring the original hardware feature. The experience does not require an active subscription to access.
