Display and Pricing
The new tablet starts at $699.
Apple isn't waiting for an event to unveil new hardware, announcing the refreshed iPad mini. The new tablet features an 8.5-inch OLED display, which Apple allows customers to specify with a nano-texture coating. The panel is a substantial upgrade, capable of reaching a peak brightness of 1,200 nits and sustaining 600 nits of full-screen brightness across SDR and HDR content. It also offers a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Thanks to 24 percent thinner bezels, the screen is slightly larger than the 8.3-inch display offered previously.
Audio and Durability
In addition to the OLED panel, the updated device introduces a custom acoustic display setup with embedded custom woofers and hidden tweeters for improved bass and volume. The enclosure is now sealed, giving the tablet an IP67 rating against water and dust. It also includes a landscape-oriented 12-megapixel Center Stage front camera and a single 12-megapixel rear camera with Smart HDR 4 and 4K video capture at 60 frames per second.
Performance and Connectivity
Inside, the tablet runs on Apple's A20 Pro system-on-a-chip, designed to handle everyday tasks and local AI workloads. Connectivity features include the in-house N1 chip supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Cellular models incorporate the company's C2 modem, which provides faster data speeds compared to previous generations.
