Cisco is bringing a new agentic framework to its Webex enterprise platform

It is called Dialog and promises to turn fragmented interactions into continuous customer relationships.

Cisco is updating its Webex cloud collaboration platform to better accommodate AI agents. A key addition is a new toolset called Dialog, an agentic harness that directs AI to handle customer interactions.

Customer Interaction Handling

The company states that Dialog tasks various agents with keeping consumers supported by continuing to work on the customer's behalf after a conversation ends. This allows agents under Dialog's umbrella to coordinate across people, agents and backend systems.

The platform also speeds up the onboarding process by treating AI agents like new teammates, giving them the opportunity to review existing employee handbooks, knowledge bases and operating procedures.

Safety and Reliability Concerns

Cisco incorporates safety features via Splunk, a data analysis platform it acquired, with the Dialog platform continuously refining agent performance with every interaction.

Workspace Integration

For employees, the updated Webex allows workspace users to directly invite AI agents into spaces, meetings and calls to execute complex, multi-step work across the platform and in third-party applications, such as pulling up statistics during a presentation and updating a PowerPoint.

"The numbers remain dismal. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University found earlier this year that even the best-performing AI agent, which was Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro at the time, failed to complete real-world office tasks 70 percent of the time." Studies indicate that AI agents remain prone to mistakes leading to cascading failures, with failure rates sitting between 60 and 70 percent regarding multi-step tasks due to single errors throwing off the entire process.

While reliability is expected to improve over time, high failure rates remain a risk when dealing with complex corporate workflows.
