Feature Phaseout

Access to the emergency feature for LTE-connected wearables will end by December.

Google will end support for its Safety Signal feature by the end of the year. This tool was designed to bring core safety functions to the smartwatch over LTE connectivity, providing resources such as emergency SOS, fall detection, and calls to emergency contacts even without an active wireless plan for the wearable.

Affected Models

Safety Signal was offered on the LTE-enabled Google Pixel Watch 2 and Google Pixel Watch 3 models, and both versions of the smartwatch will wind down support for the feature.

Transition Period

Current Safety Signal users will receive email and push notifications with advanced notice about the change. Features will remain available during a 30-day transition period beginning from the date of the email, with all access ending by December 12.

Alternative Connectivity

The tools included under Safety Signal can still be used by these smartwatch models while connected to a WiFi network, paired to a smartphone over Bluetooth, or linked to an active carrier cellular line.
