Prototype Details
A report indicates the company is already working on a second version codenamed Max 2.
As part of its push into robotics, Meta has built a prototype humanoid robot meant to help around the home, according to reports. The robot, internally codenamed Max, was built with assistance from a robotics company called Fourier in approximately three months.
Hardware and Specifications
Sources indicate the robot weighs roughly 106 pounds and stands about five feet tall. Externally, the prototype features a display capable of showing facial expressions, an integrated speaker, and hands designed for handling small objects. Internally, the hardware is powered by NVIDIA's Jetson Thor chips.
Next Iteration
While no release date has been established for a commercial version of Max, Meta has reportedly been working on a second prototype, codenamed Max 2. This new version includes updates to the torso and hand designs, along with an added projector and extra sensors to improve navigation on stairs.
Meta's exploration into humanoid robotics began following the formation of a specialized hardware team aimed at household automation. The tech giant subsequently acquired a startup specializing in artificial intelligence for robotic systems.
