Price Increase Details

Nvidia’s Shield TV streaming boxes are affected by the ongoing memory shortage that has driven up prices across digital cameras and game consoles. Originally released nearly seven years ago with a Tegra X1+ processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage for $199.99, the Shield TV Pro increased in price by $100 to $299.99 due to rising component costs.

Nvidia Shield TV Pro Price Hike

The long-standing streaming device has seen its price surge significantly years after its initial debut.

Discontinuation of Standard Model

When the Pro model was launched in 2019, Nvidia also introduced an entry-level Shield TV featuring 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage for $149.99. However, that cheaper alternative is no longer available as Nvidia has discontinued production of the standard Shield TV model to focus exclusively on manufacturing the Pro version.

Market Impact

Heavy demand for Nvidia's graphics processing units and AI hardware has heavily contributed to component price hikes across the industry. While the higher price tag places the Shield TV Pro at a steep disadvantage compared to alternatives like the Google TV Streamer, hardware sales remain secondary to Nvidia's primary focus on the artificial intelligence market.
