Cellular Safety Changes
Google announced that the LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 are losing free access to Safety Signal, a feature that allowed tools like Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Safety Check to function over cellular networks without requiring a dedicated carrier plan.
Older Pixel watches are losing free cellular access to several safety features
Features including Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Safety Check will require an active mobile plan after December 12th.
Transition Period
Existing users with free access will be notified via notifications and email. Safety Signal features will remain active without a mobile plan during a 30-day transition period beginning when the email is sent, but full access concludes after the mid-December deadline.
The covered emergency tools will continue to function on the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 without a mobile plan, provided the device remains connected to Wi-Fi or paired to a smartphone via Bluetooth.
