Pangram expands its AI detection tools to video and images
Pangram is expanding its software suite to address the growing prevalence of AI-generated content across various media formats.
Pangram, known for its text-based AI detection, has launched new tools designed to identify AI-generated images and videos.
Video Analysis Tools
Subscribers can now upload videos to receive an assessment regarding AI involvement in the clip's creation or editing. The system distinguishes between partially AI-modified content and fully synthetic media, providing a heatmap to highlight specific areas of the video identified as likely AI-generated.
The company reports that its video model is optimized for frontier AI detection and achieved over 98 percent accuracy in internal testing.
Image Detection and Browser Integration
Pangram has also integrated its image detection model into a Chrome extension, allowing for automated scanning of images while browsing.
Internal testing showed a 99 percent detection rate for AI images with a 0.27 percent false positive rate. However, the company notes that images with resolutions below 512 x 512 pixels may trigger a reduced confidence disclaimer.
Technical Challenges and Camera Processing
Developing the model required addressing the nuances of modern smartphone photography. Many devices, including recent iPhone models, utilize AI for post-processing, which can lead to false positives. Pangram refined its model to differentiate between standard computational photography and fully synthetic visuals.
These tools are currently available to Pangram subscribers, with limited free access provided for occasional image checks.
