Studio Uncertainty
Arkane Lyon is still working on Marvel’s Blade, but it is doing so while facing an imminent deadline regarding the studio's future.
According to reports from French outlet Le Monde, local legislation requires companies of a certain size to search for a buyer for at least three months before closing a studio. The search for a buyer for the Dishonored and Deathloop developer began in the summer, putting the deadline around mid-November.
The studio was informed of Microsoft’s decision following broader restructuring plans across Xbox that affected multiple internal studios and led to widespread job cuts.
Union Negotiations and Takeover Talks
Union representatives have indicated that negotiations regarding redundancy plans are difficult, while worker organizations attempt to secure more time for discussions.
Several forms of takeover are reportedly being considered, with potential buyers showing interest in the immersive sim developer, leading the union to push for an extension to save jobs.
Microsoft stated that it continues to explore different options for Arkane as part of the ongoing French consultation process, keeping employees informed while actively seeking a partner to support the project's commercialization.
Internal documents suggest that the complete and definitive cessation of company activities could begin at the end of the year and extend into the first quarter of the following year.
The union is also pushing for the re-employment of affected staff within other divisions of Xbox, citing limited prospects within the broader video game industry.
Negotiations remain ongoing, with unions questioning the financial justification provided for divesting from a studio that they argue has performed well.
Future of Marvel's Blade
Amid these developments, concerns persist regarding the status of Marvel's Blade, which had previously been tracking toward a reveal and a potential late-decade release.
Blade was originally announced in December 2023. Bethesda leadership previously expressed enthusiasm for the project following early internal demonstrations.
