The Economy and RMT Crackdown
World of Warcraft: Classic has faced gold selling challenges throughout its existence, but Blizzard is taking steps to reverse that trend during the Forever beta, impacting several streamers.
Before the Forever beta, Classic experienced economic imbalance due to GDKP, a system where players bid gold during raids to acquire boss drops. Combined with limited enforcement against real-money trading, or RMT, this practice introduced millions of gold into the economies.
Blizzard announced bans on GDKP for Forever to make the mode fairer. However, addressing RMT remains essential to prevent players with disposable income from distorting the economy.
Blizzard has initiated enforcement measures during the Forever beta. Multiple Classic streamers have faced penalties following suspected RMT activity.
Streamer Penalties and Bans
Commentator N_Tys26 highlighted a situation involving streamer Ziqo, where Blizzard reclaimed a large sum of gold, leaving him with minimal currency in a hostile zone without flight funds.

Ziqo received a gold wipe rather than an account ban. Other content creators faced stricter penalties, such as streamer Payo, who had an account banned after promoting gold selling on stream.
Prior to the ban, footage showed Payo asking his audience to buy gold. Despite the account penalty, he retained access via alternative accounts to participate in upcoming community events.

Impact on the Community
Because streamers operate in public view, their punishments are more visible than those of average players. Addressing RMT among high-profile figures serves as a deterrent for the broader player base.
Enforcing these rules during the beta phase is a positive sign for the economy ahead of the scheduled release on November 4, helping avoid the inflationary issues seen in previous Classic iterations.
