Update Details
CD Projekt has announced a surprise update to Cyberpunk 2077, due out this week.
The Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) launches Thursday, October 22, and while CD Projekt kept the details quiet, it has confirmed it will feature content inspired by the anime. Edgerunners 2 hits Netflix today, so this update is well-timed to capitalize on heightened interest in the franchise.
CD Projekt took to social media to confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will get new items and features, including content inspired by Edgerunners 2.
Update 2.5 will be dropping on October 22, 2026, marking another opportunity to dive back into Night City or experience it for the first time, the developer stated.
New Features
In a social media post from the official Cyberpunk 2077 account, CD Projekt teased new Edgerunners, new chrome, and a new playstyle, highlighting cyberware customization and a dual-wielding playstyle.
Associate game director Paweł Sasko also teased the upcoming additions on social media.
Release Information
More details about the Edgerunners 2 Update will be revealed on October 21, 2026, during a special episode of REDstreams, with patch notes scheduled for publication the same day. The free update launches across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release to follow shortly.
Future Content
Cyberpunk 2077 fans have previously called on CD Projekt to release meaningful DLC. Some held out hope for additional expansions, especially given announcements for older titles like The Witcher 3.
In May, CD Projekt insisted it had no plans for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs or expansions, suggesting fans would have to wait for Cyberpunk 2, which co-CEO Michał Nowakowski suggested may not arrive until at least 2030.
The news of a 2.5 update runs counter to expectations following CD Projekt's previous statements in May, prompting players to reinstall the game in anticipation.
In July, CD Projekt confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 40 million copies since its December 2020 launch. The game has received one major expansion so far, 2023's Phantom Liberty.
