Leaked Footage of Canceled China Game
Ubisoft was apparently developing another Assassin’s Creed game set in ancient China, featuring a massive open world and a unique umbrella weapon. According to reports, the project was titled Assassin’s Creed Destiny.
While Assassin’s Creed Jade is targeting mobile devices in the same historical setting, Destiny's prototype footage appears to have been aimed at modern consoles and PC.
Destiny was reportedly set during 206 BCE, a period where the Qin dynasty transitioned to the Han dynasty following a brutal civil war, likely focusing on Liu Bang’s rise to power.
Development and Partnership
The footage was discovered within developer portfolios. Reports indicate the game was planned as a partnership between Ubisoft and Chinese conglomerate Tencent, which holds significant industry investments including a stake in a subsidiary overseeing major Ubisoft intellectual properties.
The leaked material shows a hooded assassin battling through a siege led by warlord Xiang Yu, alongside greybox testing environments showcasing combat abilities and a spinning umbrella weapon.
Another snippet indicates players could choose between a male and female protagonist or utilize a dual-protagonist system, with thematic UI elements incorporating yin-yang symbols and ink brushes.
Future of the Franchise
While Destiny was seemingly canceled, mobile title Assassin’s Creed Jade remains in development despite facing apparent delays.
Meanwhile, upcoming mainline entry Assassin’s Creed Hexe has reportedly undergone creative restructuring, with developers allegedly removing magical abilities from the project.
Hexe's game director recently departed the project following the exit of its creative director, prompting an internal reshuffle that placed a longtime Ubisoft veteran at the head of the franchise content.
