Physint Development Budget
Microsoft’s high-profile deal for Hideo Kojima’s Physint is reportedly substantially below what Xbox would typically spend to develop a premium game.
Xbox snapped up Physint after Kojima pitched the game to CEO Asha Sharma, following Sony's decision to cancel the previously PlayStation-exclusive project.
Initial online speculation claimed the budget was around $400 million, though subsequent reports pointed to a lower figure. A New York Times profile indicated that Xbox negotiated a deal below expectations for the spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid.

Broader Media Expansion
Xbox’s agreement for Physint encompasses broader media adaptations. Kojima noted that Microsoft is interested in funding an entire intellectual property spanning movies and anime, rather than just a standalone video game.
The funding model targets the wider IP, meaning potential adaptations such as live-action films or anime series could accompany the upcoming release.
Industry Context
Rising video game production budgets, particularly in Western markets, have increased financial pressures across the AAA gaming industry as sales figures struggle to match climbing costs.
Following the transition to Xbox, reports highlighted previous concerns from Sony regarding Death Stranding alongside Physint's development timeline and platform strategy. Kojima Productions subsequently issued a public statement addressing the situation.
Kojima Productions stated that the studio remains in a healthy and profitable state, confirming that development on Physint continues with Xbox while maintaining its relationship with PlayStation.
Physint currently lacks a confirmed release window and is expected to launch following OD, Kojima's other upcoming title for Xbox.
