Future Remakes
Ubisoft said more Assassin's Creed games are on the way, but don't expect to see remakes like Black Flag Resynced anytime soon.
The publisher behind the stealth-action franchise laid out its plans in a recent update post. Following the successful launch of this year's Assassin's Creed 4 remake in July, fans might have expected re-imaginings of other past games to follow, but that is not currently the case.
In a section of the update titled 'What About Other Remakes?', Ubisoft addressed player interest in future re-imaginings. While acknowledging the strong fan enthusiasm following Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, the company indicated that similar projects are not on the immediate horizon.
"One thing we want to be transparent about today is that we currently have no other Assassin's Creed remake actively in development," the publisher stated. "Our teams are already focused on the next chapter of Assassin's Creed titles, including projects you haven't heard about yet, featuring new settings and stories."
Lessons from Black Flag Resynced
Despite Black Flag remaining a fan favorite over a decade after its initial release, and ongoing requests to revisit titles like the original Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 2, and Assassin's Creed 3, rebuilding the West Indies adventure required significant technical effort.
"As our first-ever franchise remake, Resynced taught us a tremendous amount," Ubisoft explained. "Taking on a game that holds such a special place in players' hearts brought both excitement and challenges. Rebuilding old systems from scratch, adding new elements that fit the experience, and balancing legacy with innovation was a massive undertaking."
Looking Ahead
Although players will not be stepping into the shoes of Altair or Ezio in a remade format anytime soon, the publisher left the door open for future possibilities regarding classic titles.
"Like many of you, we love the idea of revisiting our classic titles, and we'll keep exploring opportunities to bring older titles back. That door remains open because, after all... Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
Meanwhile, development teams remain concentrated on upcoming entries in the franchise, such as Codename Hexe, alongside broader plans to release new games across multiple major Ubisoft franchises over the coming years.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced received a 9/10 review, with critics praising its ability to bring a classic entry up to modern standards. Its recent major content update introduced features such as New Game+ and a Nightmare difficulty mode.
