Actor Backlash and Defense

Emmy-nominated actor Vincent D’Onofrio has defended Deborah Ann Woll following online complaints regarding her appearance and character design in the upcoming God of War Laufey.

The next installment in the God of War franchise centers on the adventures of Laufey, Kratos’ second wife and Loki’s mother within Norse mythology.

The game's premise has drawn considerable online discussion, prompting responses from figures across the entertainment industry.

Discussion shifted toward Woll’s special armor sets after social media users criticized Santa Monica Studio's design choices regarding how much skin the character's outfits cover.

Vincent D’Onofrio, who previously worked with Woll on Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil, responded directly on social media to support his former co-star and express enthusiasm for playing the game.

“Not that you asked, but… In no way do I agree with you,” D’Onofrio wrote. “Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented. She is as smart as a whip and a complete nerd. Also incredibly kind. How perfect she is! And a good friend. I am a fan of God of War. I, for one, cannot wait to play the new game with my son.”

Community and Industry Reactions

D’Onofrio's response drew widespread attention, generating numerous supportive replies and memes from players backing the actor's stance.

Laufey has faced other high-profile critiques, including remarks from original God of War creator David Jaffe and The Last of Us director Bruce Straley, both of whom later clarified their statements regarding the title.

Prior to that, The Last of Us director Bruce Straley used Laufey as an example of AAA games that failed to “excite” him, though he similarly clarified this statement and apologized for bringing "uninvited and unnecessary negative attention” to the title.

Woll's Response

Woll has remained largely unaffected by the online commentary, noting during an appearance at Florida Supercon that her absence from social media and confidence in the project's quality helped insulate her from negative feedback.

"Genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more offended by it, but one, I'm not on social media, so that helps, and two, I don't know, I feel totally unbothered," Woll said. "Because I just know it's great. It's okay if it's not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad."

God of War Laufey is scheduled for release exclusively on PlayStation 5.
